hi all can anyone tell me what the loch is like for fly fishing and the best time to try fishing with a fly? also some good spots for "normal" fishing i.e dead bait on the bottom

We try to force the barblees hooks so there less chance of damaging the fish and it makes the removal of deep hooked pike a hell of a lot easier. Not so much bothered if your fishing for the roach as we appreciate its easier to get maggot and worm to stay on size 18 and up hooks.

hi just reading the comments of last years fishing pretty good pleanty of fish getting caught.
can any one tell me if this is a barbless hook fishery or not as i was up fishing in january using barbs on hook please let me know

me and my son was up fishing the lake on the 13th to 16th of jan 2012 we had 6 small jack pike out of the roadside swims on small sprats and fillited mackerel and small roach. it was very cold on the night time the fish started to bite at about 6.30pm we had to leave early as the lake started to frezz over on the monday.

going up for 4 days in feb if weather ok fishing for pike any tips out there

being up over christmas and new year caught three roach,two trout and one pike about 5lb

well we fished Friday, had one trout on spinner, a pike on deadbait and 3 more trout on maggot, not bad day.

probinson depends what you are fishing for try maggots,worms or pellets they work
on any fish that are feeding but depends on weather

unlucky Brian, we're going to give it a go tomorrow, any tips would be well appreciated.

i was up on monday and did not catch anything water is cold but plenty of fish swimming near bridge

Well, three of us fished yesterday, not a bite between us, saw 3 or 4 rainbows being caught by some lads just up from the bridge. Next time!

i was up on thursday and caught only two roach andone trout but wind got up and i never caught after that

Comp was held on Saturday 3rd Sept. Congratulations to Rendal Auston on his win. Big thanks to everybody who turned out a horrible windy wet day. The fishing was tough with the dam end proving the place to be with 16 fish being caught in 6hrs.

Hi myself and 2 friends were up at the beginning of August and had no luck (due to the torential rain I think) but hoping to get up in the next few weeks with my step father and little bro, think i'll check the weather forecast though.

P.S totally agree about putting price up for people who quite frankly have no intention of paying and thus no respect for the place. great site keep up the good work!

fished wednesday 17th, in the woods along roadside, had six runs all from pike, landed zero....noticed fish being stocked, any idea what went in ???

It was a double figure fish thats all i can say wether it was 10Lbs or 20lbs i just dont know sorry.

when you say good fish steve, what weight do you think ???

Had a good 24hr session i caught 4 pike 3lb two at 41/2lb and one at 6 1/2 lost a really good fish in the morning the big fish was in immaculate condition. my brother only caught a 2lb rainbow on the spinner and his brother in law caught a huge eel. Place was really busy today.

deadbait they was no cars near to cabins but they was some in small car park in trees and there was kids aswell as adults

The day we visited we had cleaned up two black bags of beer cans and there had also been fires lit young ones i think.

Was up at Alemoor today and lifted 5 black bags of rubbish, and there's still more to lift. Can all "ANGLERS" please clean up after themselves. Its always lighter to carry home. There is NO EXCUSE for the mess thats being left for others to clean up. Also due to the amount of people turning up without tickets and chancing their luck, we are seriously considering putting up the price of tickets bought on the bank, without prior consent, to £10 as against £5 for the pre bought tickets. SORRY FOR THE MUMP BUT SOME PEOPLE ARE TAKING THE PISS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fished on Friday 5th Aug and the day definately belonged to Peter Harvey( Edgelaw Fishery manager) who put everybody to shame. Whilst those around him were struggling, his catch of 3 Pike weighing 14, 7, and 4lb all caught on Pearch deadbait and a couple of trout made for a great days fishing for him. Me i caught nowt !!!! :-)

We fished before the bridge on the right alot of fish movement there we had a few jacks and a couple at three pounds and my brother lost a really decent fish ten feet from the bank hit the weeds and got of the trace. oh well theres always next time.

Fished it 3 times over the last week to no avail. Tried spinning, bubble float and worm, maggot + sweetcorn but not a sniff. Tried a few spots but mostly in the bay just off the car park. Anybody know if its fishing poorly at the minute or where am i going wrong? Any advice would be of great help!

up fishing alemoor over weekend had good catch of roach and trout,roach are feeding well and are showing all over small bay and near road bridge also got some photos

Fished Alemoor on the 14th of July at the West end on the far bank. Had a brilliant days sport on the surface lures, floating devon minnows, with Jacks attacking the lure almost every cast. Lost a few fish because of the barbless hooks but landed 6 fish in total. Cracking days fishing on light tackle :-)

was up fishing today 2nd june caught 4 roach and two perch but they are full of spawn
so be carefull also caught two trout

great site, pity fishing reports are about 5 months out of date, need to get a grip and keep the folks upto date, otherwise good site.

Hi im a damsel in distress and new to this fishing mullarky. Anybody got any tips on how and what I should be doing to catch the different types of fish in Alemoor. So far I have only ever caught Pike and would love to catch Perch, Trout and Roach. Come on guys what do I do ???

had a good day today roach about 1lb half and four good perch also some good trout all near bridge on the loch small side

just of the back of the car park and roach on plastic maggot and worm for the rest

hi had a good day today 3 roach,4perch,i pike and a few trout water warming up so hope to get some better roach , them today about 12ozs to 1lb seen some bigger ones

how big does the pike go up to

up there a few weeks back it was part frozen had a run on a smelt got it in and .a 3 pound trout had taken my smelt had a few more runns but no pike .

Went up a few weeks ago for a few hours piking, after 2 hours freezing my ass of finaly i had some line twitching i thought oh yes first pike of 2011 but NO what was it a rainbow not foul hooked it had actually taken a whole herring, can someone please suggest a way to avoid these pain in the ass fish NOTHING seems to work!!!

Up at Alemoor on Sunday 6th Feb. Water level high and coloured. Very windy. I think the fishing gods are out of favour at the minute. someone needs to give us anglers a break !!!!!!!!!!!!!

was up there today 31st both waters ice free and roach and some small fry showing in small bay

For our Shaws members, walked up there today to find both lochs still frozen over ;-(

Yip they decided to harvest the top end. New tree's and bushes due to be planted in the summer after the brash has been lifted. Its certainly a wee tad breezier ;-)

Went up to Alemoor the other day, first time in ages, whats happened to the beautiful water it looks like a nuclear bomb has gone off!! All the trees gone, no shelter from the wind its a disaster area.

Pretty much same as last 2 years, Steady stock of bait/prey fish for pike and a health amount of trout for the fluff chuckers out there. Another meeting or two with the RTC to try and reach an amicable agreement to what and how much we can stock and the possibility of introducing other triploid species like Tench or maybe even Crucian carp.

not to bad then, whats your plan for stocking this year ????

Never got a great deal of feed back last year but the biggest caught when I was actually at the water was a 15lb'er caugh near the old boat house. I know there was a few good fish lost but thats the biggest I saw.

does anyone know what the heaviest pike was last year ???

had two good days fishing alemoor caught roach 2-1/2lb and perch on feeder with maggot/worm and using black and green swim ground bait also used a float about
16feet out with maggot only and caught as well yours brian

i had a good day fishing inthis compertion as it was my first time on alemoor and i picked a good spot to fish and won and would like to thank steve and tony for a good compertion thank you

Really good. 29 members took part with a total of 79 fish landed. The free beer and burgers went down a treat. Weather was pretty good and the company better. All in all a great day out was had by all.

Kamil, You can buy a permit at Libby's pet shop on the High Street, Hawick or from myself or Tony. Yes you can spin but please use barbless hooks as all fish must be returned.

Has anyone had a sniff of a roach yet ???????

2 of us travelled up on 11/06/10 with the intention of us both targeting pike all weekend travelling home sunday. Pike fishing was a bit slow 6 jacks to about 6lb, got the pole out to try for the roach and ended up with 3 rainbows to about 3 lb and a blue trout after getting smashed up twice and my pole elastic stretched to within an inch of its life. Perch started feeding at dusk on saturday with the best one just under a pound. What a cracking weekend with and a lovely place to fish.
