Has anyone had a sniff of a roach yet ???????
(Posted on 2010-06-20 12:42:00 by ) -
2 of us travelled up on 11/06/10 with the intention of us both targeting pike all weekend travelling home sunday. Pike fishing was a bit slow 6 jacks to about 6lb, got the pole out to try for the roach and ended up with 3 rainbows to about 3 lb and a blue trout after getting smashed up twice and my pole elastic stretched to within an inch of its life. Perch started feeding at dusk on saturday with the best one just under a pound. What a cracking weekend with and a lovely place to fish.
(Posted on 2010-06-16 11:39:00 by ) -

look forward to seeing you in action again perch queen......linda and i travelled from the north east from 72 onwards fishing the rivers , when we first started fishing alemoor the smoke was still coming out of the chimney. [ha-ha ]...................it's been such a part of our lives over the years , we were so worried when we were told it was going private, we are so pleased now that we can still fish the loch, and what a grand job has been done so far ......many thanks to all concerned ......best wishes.....geordie boy
(Posted on 2010-06-08 09:59:00 by ) -
Awww thanks Geordie boy, hope your having more luck on the pike front, as for the perch they are still coming out thick and fast into my net as are the pike, hope to see you up there again soon :)

Here here well said about the toilet roll, i'm fed up of walking into used toilet roll in the woods its disgusting and its not a very nice thing to walk into!!!! And as for your new podium what a fantastic piece of kit already well christened with a bucketload of perch and a nice jack!!!!
(Posted on 2010-05-31 23:01:00 by ) -
Sounds like everyone had a good weekends fishing, pleased to hear it. We were up today doing some more work. There is now a new podium to the right of the new car park. Unfortunately we had to lift rubbish from behind the car park at the containers. The rubbish wasn't the only 'stuff' left, if you have to use the woods as a toilet we ask at the very least you uplift your paper!!!!!
BAG IT AND TAKE IT AWAY, other people DON'T want to see that mess or clean it up for you ............. if you can't be bothered DON'T bother coming back...........you know who you are!!!!!!!
We have enough to do without having to keep tidying up after you.

Rusco, not aware of anybody targeting the Roach yet but Tony and I are gonna prebait an area shortly and give it a good go. We will post the results.
(Posted on 2010-05-23 23:09:00 by ) -
Linzi. The scum on the water is dried mould from the trees. Its not anything to worry about. If you park your car in the carpark you find it covered in the same stuff. Nowt to worry about.
(Posted on 2010-05-23 23:08:00 by ) -

Hi all, just had a great weekend fishing with 4 visitors (Rusco,Jones,Jamie and Scott), we set up camp and made good use of the new swims, the wind couldnt have blown harder if it tried (all day and night) which made it bloody cold, however we stuck at it and caught 36 Rainbows (a few blues) 3 pike and one perch. All fish were returned !!!!! The fish were caught all over the loch, constantly moving around definately seemed to work much better than sitting waiting all day. A fantastic weekend's fishing !!!!!

The stocking programme states that the second stock of trout will be in May, Is that old news from last year or are there plans to put more trout in this month? Regards................B
(Posted on 2010-05-06 12:27:00 by ) -
More roach getting stocked on 18/5/10. Glad to see the feedback we're getting (good and bad) gives us an idea as to where we're heading. Rusco what is the club you're a member of? Just to let you know, we have opened up some more swims along the 'roadside' where we put in the new car park. There are swims cleared down towards the dam end and up the way also on the top end (same side) to about level with the point.

(Posted on 2010-05-03 12:21:00 by ) -
Rusco, opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one.
If you asked what was going on with Alemoor before adding your post you would already know this is a non profit making venture with all of the money going straight back into the developement of the water. I have been running another fishery for 12 years and never during that time have I taken anything for personal gain.
When we took this place on the place was a mess and almost all of the fish being caught were being killed. Through sheer hard work and commitment we are slowly but surely turning the place around. It was said right from the start if we could not control the fishing and turn the place around in 5 years we would walk away. At the end of the 5 years this venture will have cost in the region of £50,000. Even if we walk away after this time at least the place will have been given a fighting chance. As for the place being over fished, never going to happen, there are 150 plus acres of water over nearly 1.5 miles of water. We are limiting the membership 100 people and to date have never had more than 20 people fishing at any given time. Hope this puts your mind at rest and any productive idea's would be more than welcome.
(Posted on 2010-05-01 15:29:00 by ) -
i think you guys who took the loch over have did a really good job, putting this website online is a mistake tho, turning a cracking wee loch into a fishery.... going to get too busy, over fished and wrecked.money making scheme?? think that was always at the back of your minds.... gutted that you've turned a little gem into a wagon wheel :o(
(Posted on 2010-04-30 15:27:00 by ) -
Caught a jack pike about 2lbs and 2 rainbow one was 2lbs 5ozs and the other one 1lb 5ozs slow at min and water still very cold!

Hello, was fishing up at the loch on Saturday 10th April. Caught a nice looking rainbow trout on a flashy lure, it weighed in at 4lbs and it was caught at the top of the loch near the dam. Will be back up again soon
(Posted on 2010-04-10 14:41:00 by ) -
Yes were open, yes we got permission to get boats back onto the water. Last weekend was the first weekend open this year. Two lads from Annan up on an overnighter and had some good sport, plenty of runs and stated that the pike were very plump and healthy looking. Hope this will be the shape of great things to come this seasons, what size was the fush at St Mary's
(Posted on 2010-03-27 11:12:00 by ) -
Whats the fishing like here now its getting looked after? i heard there was plans for boats is this true? I heard there was a biggy caught over at st marys a couple of weeks ago too!!!

"TIGHTLINES"
(Posted on 2010-03-16 20:18:00 by ) -
still frozen over. Nobody been fishing since mid December. as for the 3lb'rs, plenty of double figure fish caught towards the end of last year by anglers who went hunting for the fish rather than waiting for the fish to come to them, food for thought?
(Posted on 2010-02-27 18:56:00 by ) -
Is the Loch still frozen? If not has anybody been Piking lately and has anything been caught bigger than 3 lb!?!
(Posted on 2010-02-25 23:49:00 by ) -
hello all
(Posted on 2010-02-23 22:25:00 by ) -
I though I would just take a moment to thanks Steve for his welcome advise on our first visit to Alemoor (early October). Two of us travelled from Sunderland to give this new venue a try and had a great day surrounded by awsome sites. Although the day end a little disappointing with regard to our catches (1 Jack and a rainbow) we will return soon.
(Posted on 2009-11-28 13:09:00 by ) -
Lynsey,
There have been a few more pike getting caught lately and the trout are still on the feed. Think there have also been some perch caught. as for the roach they're getting stocked on 8/12/09.

You and Andy certainly made everybody laugh even if it was just at your attempts to catch!!!. Didn't anybody tell you you had to put bait on your hooks to stand a chance.
Glad you enjoyed it and the good news is you won,t have to wait till next year. We are planning to have an open comp later this year probably mid November. BRING MORE BEER THIS TIME YA MISERABLE GIT. LOL

Hi went fishing on the 07/06/2009, Fab day although the weather was cold and wind, caught 2 ranibow trout and 2 pike, 2 rainbow trout came close to around 3 1/2lb to 4lb and pike was around 4lb, trout had markings of bites on the face which is a good sign that the pike are up for the bait :)....fishing for perch but unfortunately the did not stay on lost a couple coming into the side,....Alemoor loch is very promising and is a fab day out for the family and hardcore fishermen wanting the big catch....willl recommend the loch to many more. cheers
Ps, Fish was caught just around both sides of the bridge and also under bridge.

Just back from the weekend up there. Is it June or January?
Weather was terrible, mainly high winds and really cold through the night.
Only managed 3 jacks through the night off 5 runs, all were small though. I fished the point that sticks out as you cross the bridge on the left. Ive not fished here before so it was the nearest place to get the bivvy in that I could see.
Would like some more info on the place before I make the trip again.
PS. No sign of the Perch where I was.
(Posted on 2009-06-07 15:07:00 by ) -
Spent 1hrs spinning this morning. Had 3 Jack's and missed another 2. God bless the hot weather !!!!!!!

1 1/2 -2lb , my mate ally was unlucky with the rainbows yesterday managed to get it to water side before line snapped nice looking fish it was and he missed another a short time later, we were fishing near the bridge and just slightly under it, very enjoyable 2 days fishing, hope it lasts

Hello Gents,
I am heading up this weekend to Pike fish (6th & 7th). I have never fished the Loch but has driven over the bridge once and fancy bivvying up near there.
Can anyone put me onto a spot near the bridge and let me know the water depths there.
many thanks,
Scott
PS. either post on here or email me at jswilliams91@yahoo.co.uk if you prefer.
cheers!

sunday 24 may up at alemoor for a spot of pike fishing , tried dead bait and spinner but got nowt , later on in evening when wind dropped stocked rainbows started surface feeding , my 10 year old son got a two pounder on a bunch of maggots floated near surface , is this a first for alemoor ?
(Posted on 2009-05-24 21:29:00 by ) -
Fished Alemoor at the weekend, landed 2 nice pike from a spot about 75 metres from the right hand side of the bridge. didnt have scales with me but would estimate one to be 12lb+ and the other round about 6-8 pound. should have been 3 but one got away after getting snagged in the reeds. didnt land any last time i was down but those 2 make up for it. sure theres more to be had so might be there next weekend. will upload a video of one of them if i can

Im heading up to Alemoor this week to have a go at the pike fishing again. Im from Australia but used to come here as a teenager with the Angling club. Im taking my old man up for a day out and hope to catch some big pike. I normally fish for big carp and trout in Oz as there are no pike. Cant wait to get there and get into the fishing.
Hopefully I can add a photo to the gallery after our trip.

Well done to the work thats been done to the fishery and thanks to Steve for giving up his time to help keep it running.

King fisher,
Glad to hear you are happy with the work we have done so far, still a wee bit more to do, but I'm sure we'll get there it just takes time. Hope to see you up there this season.

i learned to how to fish at Alemoor when i was younger and have seen many changes throughout the years. i must say i was a bit upset when the Hawick Angling Club gave up the lease and even more so when i visited the loch last summer and seen the damage done to the lochside and surrounding woodland. now i am pleased the loch and the whole area will be looked after now that it has been taken over. i hope to fish Alemoor again pretty soon.

Karen,
Glad to hear you enjoyed your time at Alemoor. Tony showed me the photo's of your big pike. Congrat's on the fact that that is the biggest pike caught since we took over. Hope to see you again soon.

Really good. 29 members took part with a total of 79 fish landed. The free beer and burgers went down a treat. Weather was pretty good and the company better. All in all a great day out was had by all.
