Welcome to alemoor coarse fishery.

Alemoor loch is nestled in the foothills of the rolling Scottish Borders 8 miles west of Hawick on the B711. The loch is approximately 1 mile long and is split in two by the road bridge.

The loch was formed when the ground surrounding the existing loch was purchased during a compulsory purchase order in the 1960's. The ground, farm and outbuildings were all purchased for £12,500. After the ground had been prepared and the dam built the area was flooded with the existing farm house left standing at the bottom of the loch. When water levels of the loch drop in summer months, the chimney pots from the farm house can still be seen.

The main species in Alemoor are Pike,Perch and Roach although there is a natural stock of Brown trout. There have also been Rainbow Trout stocked to 6lb.

Pike anglers mainly fish the loch with many coming from England to try to catch these hard fighting fish of up to 35lb in weight. Favourite tactics include dead baiting, with Smelt, Mackerel, Herring, Sardines and small Rainbow trout.

Surface spinning and fly fishing during the summer months in the shallow weedy areas can be very productive with lots of small jacks hammering into the flashy lures. This is a fantastic way to catch Pike as the takes can be seen as the Pike ambushes the lure passing the edge of the weed beds.

There are natural Brown trout in the loch but these are very rarely caught and must be returned, there have been trout of up to 8lb landed in the 2008 season. These were caught by anglers spinning the shallow water for Perch.

A word of warning some parts of the reservoir are very deep with banks shelving away very quickly.

WADING IS NOT RECOMMENDED
